Asus sorgt f\u00fcr Schlagzeilen, das l\u00e4sst sich nicht verleugnen, kam man erst mit schlechtem GPS Empfang in die Kritik, weitete sich die Diskussion schnell auf den geschlossenen und verschl\u00fcsselten Bootloader der Transformer Prime Tablets aus.<\/p>\n

Die Reaktionen waren ausufernd, der Protest durchaus sp\u00fcrbar (inklusive Onlinepetition usw.), dabei geht Asus den gleichen Weg, den man schon beim Vorg\u00e4nger Transformer einschlug.<\/p>\n

Das Blatt hat sich mittlerweile gewendet, denn Asus nahm gestern Abend auf der offiziellen Facebook Fanpage zu den ganzen Fragen Stellung:<\/p>\n

Thank you very much for all of the support you have given to ASUS. Eee Pad Transformer Prime received excellent reviews and great demand when it launched in December 2011. Now, we are continuing to make the Transformer Prime available in the worldwide market, and doing our best to fulfill the incredible demand. ASUS strives to create the best products and provide the best service for our customers, and will be releasing an FOTA update for the Transformer Prime shortly. This update, version 8.8.3.33, will improve the focus of the camera, the fluidity of the touch experience, and the APK capabilities in Android Market.<\/p>\n

ASUS has been working hard to make the highly anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich available on the Transformer Prime, and today, we have good news for you. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich FOTA worldwide update for the Transformer Prime will start from Jan 12th, 2012. Thank you for your patience and support through this process.<\/p>\n

In addition, we would like to address your concerns related to GPS and bootloader on the Transformer Prime.<\/p>\n

The ASUS Transformer Prime is made from a metallic unibody design, so the material may affect the performance of the GPS when receiving signals from satellites. Please note that this product is not a professional GPS device, and signal performance can be easily influenced by factors including, but not limited to: weather, buildings, and surrounding environments. Please understand there are limitations when using the GPS function. To avoid inconveniencing users who demand a powerful GPS device, we made the decision to remove it from our specification sheet and marketing communications. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.<\/p>\n

Regarding the bootloader, the reason we chose to lock it is due to content providers‘ requirement for DRM client devices to be as secure as possible. ASUS supports Google DRM in order to provide users with a high quality video rental experience. Also, based on our experience, users who choose to root their devices risk breaking the system completely. However, we know there is demand in the modding community to have an unlocked bootloader. Therefore, ASUS is developing an unlock tool for that community. Please do note that if you choose to unlock your device, the ASUS warranty will be void, and Google video rental will also be unavailable because the device will be no longer protected by security mechanism.<\/p>\n

Fangen wir vorne an: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich<\/strong> findet seinen Weg auf die Asus Transformer Prime Tablets ab dem 12. Januar 2012 und wird, wie gewohnt, mittels OTA-Update (Over the Air) auf die Ger\u00e4te verteilt.<\/p>\n

Der mangelhafte GPS Empfang<\/strong> wird mit dem Metallgeh\u00e4use des Transformer Primes entschuldigt und es wird darauf hingewiesen, dass man hier keine Besserung \u00fcber Update erreichen k\u00f6nnte, man w\u00e4re dazu \u00fcbergegangen die GPS Funktionalit\u00e4t aus den Spezifikationen zu entfernen und damit nicht weiter zu werben. Das Transformer Prime sei ohnehin nicht auf erstklassigen GPS Empfang ausgerichtet gewesen, hierf\u00fcr seien andere Ger\u00e4te auf dem Market besser geeignet.<\/p>\n

Eine Erkl\u00e4rung zum Bootloader<\/strong> liefert man ebenfalls mit: Aufgrund von Vorgaben durch Partnerunternehmen, die DRM gesch\u00fctzte Inhalte anbieten, sei man dazu verpflichtet die Ger\u00e4te so gut wie m\u00f6glich abzusichern und habe deshalb diesen Weg eingeschlagen. Man werde allerdings eine M\u00f6glichkeit anbieten den Bootloader zu entsperren und ein entsprechendes Tool an die Community weiterreichen. Mit Entsperrung des Bootloaders verzichte man allerdings auf seinen Garantieanspruch und DRM nutzende Dienste, wie Googles Video Rental (bisher US only), w\u00fcrden anschliessend nicht mehr funktionieren.<\/p>\n

Alles in allem durchaus positive Meldungen, mit denen sich Asus ganz sicher erstmal wieder aus dem Fokus r\u00fccken kann.<\/p>\n
